Bergamo is an Italian city of about 120 000 inhabitants, capital of the province of the same name, located in Lombardy about 50 km northeast of Milan. The city is composed of two distinct parts: the "high city" surrounded by walls built in the sixteenth century, five kilometers long and pierced with four doors; and the "low city", economic and administrative heart of Bergamo.
